Membership

Legacy Church is filled with people from different backgrounds, different personalities, different interests, different experiences, and different strengths who share one common faith in Jesus Christ. If the Bible is the cornerstone of our church, then membership is the cement that holds us all together. Both Christ and Paul pointed us toward membership for our encouragement, our protection, and our instruction.

Church membership is a formal relationship between a local church and a Christian characterized by the church’s affirmation and oversight of a Christian’s discipleship and the Christian’s submission to living out his or her discipleship in the care of the church.

At Legacy Church, membership means being part of a family.

By becoming a member at Legacy Church, you are in a sense joining a family - people willing to celebrate with you in moments of celebration, cry with in suffering, and lovingly encourage you to remain steadfast especially when you are tempted to stray.

We seek to carry out this vision through a four-step process by which to join Legacy Church.

Membership Class – All prospective members must attend our Legacy Explored class. This class is designed as an introduction to Legacy Church. It is a comprehensive course offered to anyone, suggested for everyone, and required for those who wish to become a covenant member of the Legacy Church family.

We believe that God has brought you here for a purpose, and we are dedicated to helping you discover, cultivate, and fulfill that purpose.

This course is composed of six one-hour classes. Courses are offered periodically through the year. Upon completion, those who attended all six classes are able but not obligated to sign up for a membership interview, the second step of the membership process.

Membership Interview – In a 45 minute meeting, the prospective member meets with an elder to provide basic biographical information and recount God’s saving work in his or her life. The prospective member would then sign the statement of faith and church covenant, and the application would go to the elders.

Elder Recommendation – At a regularly scheduled elders’ meeting, the elder will review the applicant’s testimony with the other elders. Upon receiving their collective approval, the candidate’s application proceeds to the next step: congregational affirmation.

Congregational Affirmation - During our every-other-month members meetings, each pastor who conducted an interview briefly describes how the applicants, who are desiring to be admitted to membership, have come to know the Lord. Questions are fielded, a vote is taken, and with a majority secured, candidates are received into the fellowship of Legacy Church.
